One of the most interesting points here is that a school system is willing to redesign their grading and gpa system in an effort to thwart cheating which presumably they spent much money researching and designing. Yet, they refuse the accept the idea theat their concept of how to educate people might be out-dated. Instead of trying to grasp at a system that appears to be failing if cheating is such a big problem that you have to identify cheaters via transcript, why not try reevaluating why the students feel the need to cheat, what causes this, what the definition of cheating is and with all these “new” technologies is it time to revise that definition?
At LMU, our professors allow us to use anything we want on our exams as long as we don’t solicit help. A Copy-pasting society is the direction we’re moving toward; but learning what should be copy-pasted is a tough skill to learn.
